They might. But it won't be in a long time.. Say, you'll have to wait a thousand years or so for someone to dig it up again. And then it has to be something that will last in the ground for all that time too, so I don't think you have to worry about anything.

And maybe your theory is true, who knows. It's not like anyone else can make up a better theory. [ devil's proof? ]

As to belief, that part is a little more complicated, mostly since people have lots of different reasons to believe. Some do it out of habit or tradition, and I guess others maybe just like to have something like that to hold on to.
